Gangtey

Gangtey geog is located towards the north of the Dzongkhag, enjoys a very cool climate and has abundant forest resources. There are gentle sloping areas, as well as flat areas. Gangtey is made up of 10 villages (Gangtey, Mangyekorwog, Gaylatokha, Kumbo, Gorghen, Takphu, Senchubara, Pangkha Rewana, Longmey and Zeyzay) and consists of 258 no. of households. Gangtey consists of an estimated area of 49.90 sq km, with altitude ranging from 1800 to 3800 meters above sea level. There is 1 community primary school, 2 ORCs, 1 RNR Center (shared with Phobjikha) and 1 Gup’s office in Kuinzangcholing. This geog had good accessibility and there is potential for improvement of cash crops like potatoes. The famed Gangtey monastery is undergoing a major renovation and scheduled to be completed before 2008. The annual black necked crane festival takes part in the Gangtey Monastery and is a great tourist attraction
