Agricultural sector

Wetland (Chuzhing) dominates agricultural land use in the Dzongkhag followed by Dryland (Kamzhing) and mixed farming. Paddy is a major crop and grown in 13 geogs, potato is an important cash crop especially for higher altitude geogs like Phobjikha, Gangtey and Sephu and commercial production of vegetables and fruit crops like citrus is an important source of income.

With construction of 44.90km farm road (9.9km already completed and rest likely to complete by end of 9th plan) and 19km PTT during the 9th plan, the Dzongkhag is served with good internal roads. It also has a good irrigation network, with 51 channels of varying sizes constructed as of now.

All the geogs has good extension services coverage provided by 15 geog agriculture extension staff along with Organic and Mushroom focal person.
