Dzongkhag Administration Wangdue celebrated 35th Birth Anniversary of 5th Druk Gyalpo
   His Holiness the Je Khenpo yesterday consecrated the Bajo lhakhang at Thedtsho gewog in Wangduephodrang.

His Majesty the King, His Majesty the Fourth King, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, Their Majesties the Queen Mothers and members of the Royal family attended the consecration ceremony.

Yab Dasho Ugyen Dorji, maternal grandfather of His Majesty the King, initiated and sponsored the construction of the lhakhang in 2012. It includes the main lhakhang, lam’s residence, kitchen, butter lamp house and the statues. Apart from the Jow stupa in the attic, other statues installed inside the lhakhang were new, officials said.

According to Yangbi lopon Sangay Dorji, Yab Dasho Ugyen Dorji, 89, a descendant of Zhabdrung, has so far initiated and sponsored the construction of several lhakhangs, chortens and established various shedras, lobdras and nunneries. Yab Dasho Ugyen Dorji’s father, according to the Lopon, was a descendant of fifth Zhabdrung Sungtruel Choglay Yeshey Nidup and sixth Zhabdrung Sungtruel Choglay Jigme Tenzin and his mother a descendant of Zhabdrung Thugtruel Jigme Dorji.
